David Moon (Owner & Head Instructor)

David Moon is a 6th-degree black belt in Moorimdo and a direct student of Great Grandmaster Yong Moon, continuing a lineage built on decades of martial arts mastery. In addition to his Moorimdo background, David is also a 6th-degree black belt in Taekwondo, a black belt in Kung Fu, a 10th Planet Jiu Jitsu Purple Belt, and has trained in Kickboxing and Muay Thai throughout his life.

As Head Instructor and Operations Manager at MRG MMA, David leads the academy’s training programs with a clear standard: structure, discipline, and measurable progression. He is the architect of MRG’s Mixed Martial Arts Program, where he developed a systemized ranking and training structure that gives students clear direction and consistent growth. His philosophy is simple: students should never train without purpose. Every class is designed to build real skill, confidence, and accountability.

Over the course of his career, David has coached more than 1,000 students, ranging from complete beginners to competitive athletes. He is also the founder of the MRG Fight Team, where students actively compete in Muay Thai and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, gaining real competition experience and producing proven results.

With over a decade of coaching experience across kids, teens, and adult programs, David has built a reputation for developing students who are not only technically skilled, but disciplined, focused, and consistent in their growth. His diverse training background allows him to develop well-rounded practitioners in both striking and grappling, blending traditional martial arts principles with modern combat sports training.

A Los Angeles native and UCLA graduate, David brings a performance-driven and detail-oriented approach to his instruction. Before dedicating himself fully to martial arts, he was a top-ranked junior golfer who competed internationally. As a PGA Associate, he continues to coach privately, applying the same precision and high standards that define his teaching.

What ultimately sets David apart is his ability to combine high standards with structured development. Students training under him don’t just attend classes—they develop real skill, measurable progress, and a mindset rooted in discipline and accountability.
